7 Great Ways to Bring Affordable Luxury to Your Home
Living in today’s day and age can be quite expensive at times; it feels as if we are caught in an endless cycle of making money. This hardly leaves time for us to work on the things that matter. I’m sure you have often thought about making changes at your home. I used to do that all the time.
A few months ago, I came across an article that changed the way I looked at renovations. I learnt how money isn’t necessary to make your house look luxurious. All I had to do was take small steps, do one thing at a time, and my house went through a gradual but amazing makeover. Here is a recommended site if you need more details about it.
Mentioned below are the ways that I followed to bring affordable luxury to my house.
1. Decluttering
The first thing that you need to do is evaluate your furniture. Start with one room at a time. Keeping sentiments aside, ask yourself what you need. Make a list of the things you ought to replace and what should be removed all together.
Minimalism is the new high-end fashion. Remove the things such as extra side tables, extra cushions, old furniture that has been lying around etc. repeat the process in every room and gather all the thing that you want to replace at one place. Now try to separate the things that you can reuse and things that are of absolutely no use. Once you’re done with the decluttering process, you’ll start seeing a change in the house.
2. Buy Some Art Pieces
Having a piece of wall art in the room can change the appearance of the place you want to style. Not only will it make the room look trendy but also luxurious. However, you don’t need to spend a great deal of money on high-end art from prestigious galleries.
The underground art scene is just as good and will cost you only a fraction of your money. You can also go to a thrift store and buy different paintings at affordable prices. If you’re good at art yourself, you can make your own painting and hang it in the room for a more personal touch. Try to get one for the living room, the staircase, and the guestroom.
3. Add Mirrors
If you’ve got a small apartment than adding mirrors can add visual space and give a more airy look to your apartment. A stylish mirror can be used to trick the mind into thinking that the room is more spacious than it actually is.
Try it out with mirrors of different shapes and sizes and see what fits your apartment better. However, most designers suggest a floor-length mirror. Another trick that you can use to make the roof look higher is to have higher curtain support. Paired with the mirrors, it will definitely make your room look bigger.
4. Multipurpose Bookshelves
If you go through the recent home décor catalogue, you will see that bookshelves have become a statement piece in luxurious housing. If you are a book lover, you may already have one; however, if you’re not into books you might get a cheap deal on Amazon.
Bookshelves can be used for a different purpose; you can put pots of indoor plants on a shelf, some antique pieces, pictures etc. You can also use it as a showcase for your expensive china. Not only will that look like a high-end artistic piece, but it will also become your statement piece.
5. Add Rugs
If you choose them, the right rugs could be a statement of luxury. Don’t worry; no one is asking you to spend a great deal on rugs you can find them online and at the thrift store at much lower prices. Try to go for neutral colored rugs that can add to the feeling of the room. After you’ve bought the rug, the next step is finding a location to put it. Make sure to place it at the foot of the furniture.
However, rugs require regular maintenance because they can get dirty rather quickly and if not cleaned properly, can become unhygienic. Before you add rugs to your home, try to confirm if you have any allergies from certain materials.
6. Add Lights
The way your room is lighted can give a whole new vibe, for example, when I used to live with my family, the colour of my brother’s room was blue. He had one centre light and lamp on his study table, and the window would always be closed. Stepping into that room would make you feel like entering a room of horrors. It was later when we repurpose the room that I found out that changing the lighting could cause a significant change. With the windows opened the curtains aside, new wall sconces, table lamps, and ceiling fixtures, it felt like a whole new room.
7. Focal Point
It is very important to have a focal point in every room, which means that there should be something around which the room is designed, something like Sheldon’s sofas around the TV like in the Big Bang theory. The focal point of the room can be a mirror, a TV, a window, a dining table, a fireplace or a painting. For example, in my house, the dining table is the focal point. All it took was a new table cloth, some flowers, and classy salt and pepper shakers.
If you follow the above-mentioned ways, you will surely see a significant amount of change at your home. Not only are these ways easy on the pocket, they provide for a considerable amount of change too. You can save your hard-earned money if you follow the checklist mentioned above, just as I did. Granted that all the above-mentioned tasks are going to require you to put in some hard work they are going to be worth it. As the DIY trend grows every day, you should become a part of it and feel the self-satisfaction after a job done well.
