Design Ideas for Permanent Vacation

Everyone has their own personal style. It’s what makes you who you are. It influences the type of clothes you wear, they kind of music you like to listen to, and even the vacation destinations that you frequent most often. Read below to find design ideas that give the feel of a permanent vacation and express your personal style.

Design Ideas to Express Personal Style

Your personal style also appears in the way you design your home. From the color of your front door, to the window shades in your guest bedroom, your home should be a direct reflection of who you are and what you like, with a touch of whimsy thrown in for fun. It might take you years to decorate your home to your exact liking, but the first step is admitting what you like.

Welcome To The Savannah

We had a friend who knew that she wanted her home represent her love of far-off adventures, but could not put her finger on what kind of style that meant. After months of ruminating, she discovered that her wardrobe consisted of animal prints, bright greens, and snakeskins. Walla; this led to her realization that she wanted a safari-themed home. After the understanding came the quest to collect, and it took our friend three years to change her entire décor, piece by piece, day by day. Once it was completed, she took pictures and carried them with here everywhere she went. How proud she was to show them to anyone willing to look, and truth be told, she did a lovely job.

Country Ranch

Another one of our faithful followers loved her home in the country, away from crowded streets and postage-stamp yards. She often spoke about her tomboyish youth spent fishing in the rivers and camping in the backyard. The more she spoke, the more she realized that an Americana inspired home was her exact style, and she began frequenting flea markets, yard sales, and thrift shops to find anything that said country living. From stars-and-stripes to rustic wood, her home is now an exact replica of her personal style. Find rustic style table lamps .

Going Coastal

With the official start to summer upon is, we thought that it would be a good time to speak to those who have a coastal style. After all, how many people will be heading out the beaches this summer to immerse themselves in sunshine, cool clear waters, and lazy afternoons spent on the on the deck in a hammock? Coastal life says take-it-easy; relax and stay awhile. Truthfully, there are many different coastal areas in the world, so we’ll stick with what we call American coastal, which invokes salt and sky, sand dollars and seashells.

Less Is More

To keep it classy and subtle, we suggest you stay away from anything too overbearing, such as crossed oars over the credenza, or life preservers stuck in 5-yards of fishing net. Instead, think carefree and cool with open floor plans and minimal clutter. Though sand dollars on display or a conch shell on the counter are perfect examples of coastal life, don’t overdo that which should not be overdone.coastal-design-ideas5c

Lots Of Light

The most important thing to remember about creating a beachy vibe is to keep the colors light. White walls are popular in beach homes, so consider painting rooms and molding the color that most distributes the natural glow of the sun and amplifies it. You can also go with accents in blues, greens, turquoise, or aquamarine. Leave windows as open and exposed as possible, or go with roman shades or very light drapery. And if your home is a bit on the dim side, FineHomeLamps.com offers plenty of beachy-themed lamps (from seashells to pineapples) that can provide extra light.

Fabulous Fabrics

Fabrics of the ocean shore are light and comfy. They are linen and cotton; they are sheers that blow in the breeze; they are bright and light. Again, white is the most popular for inspiring a coastal look, but neutrals work beautifully, too. Cream and beige are reminiscent of sand dunes and barely-blue says sea and sky. Keep in mind that a few nautical inspired sofa pillows or an upholstered chair can pull your room together easily.

Feel The Furniture

Bleached out driftwood, blond maple and ash, and bamboo are perfect for furniture as they are light and bright. A coffee table made with a driftwood base, dining room chairs of wicker and rattan, or updated linen upholstery make the difference. Keep it casual and comfortable; nothing that asks not to be touched. If your furniture doesn’t quite fit the bill, but you love it to death, a slipcover is an instant converter into something more coastal.  Tropical or Nautical Wall Mirrors are also an excellent way to add to your theme style.

Even when the nearest beach is hundreds of miles away, you can bring it home. Again, it’s all about your personal style. Though there are some rules, it’s mostly about relaxing and enjoying the scenery; just like life on the beach.
