Okay, So the title of this post is a little bit over-the-top, but you know what? We’re going to have fun with it anyway. If you’ve been living under a rock your whole life then we apologize for shouting in your ear. And if you already know about SAS CALCULATIONS (or are just really patient) then congrats! Your time has come.

SAP CALCULATIONS are an integral part of SAP and learning how to use them will make our lives so much easier; so let’s get started with some basic information.

SAP CALCULATIONS allow you to use functionality built into the system to perform calculations based on fields in your tables. They are a very powerful tool that can be used in many ways. And, they’re free! A lot of SAP systems have restrictions on what is and isn’t allowed but for the most part CALCULATIONS are free and easy to use (you might even say they’re cheap).

Well, we’re going to show you how, step-by-step

First lets step through the flow of this process. If you’ve seen SAP CALCULATIONS before then all of the steps in the following screenshots will be familiar to you, however, if not then you can follow along and we’ll explain each step going forward:

1) First select the record (to do this you can click on any field in the left column in your list of tables). You can also right-click any field to do this.

2) Then click on the CALCULATE option in the right-side menu.

3) In the next screen you’ll see a description of your calculation. It tells you what it is, how it works and what you need to type in. Give this a read over and then click on GO if you want to begin your calculation.

4) You’ll now be asked some basic information about how many rows there are in the table. If they are less than ten then choose to calculate on all number of rows in the table or if they are between eleven and twenty choose to calculate on 10% of the number of rows (we’ll show you both options below). Now you’ll be asked for your kind of calculation.

5) We’ll cover this in more detail below, but for now just click on BASIC ROUNDING then continue.

6) You’ll now be given a form to fill in. This form asks you what columns you want included in your calculation (select the fields of your table that you want to include). You will also need to input some values into the boxes under each column. The exact values vary depending on the calculation, so we’re not going to go over it here but know that the system will ask for input into every box. Don’t forget to click on the green + next to the Calculation field and then click on GO.

7) Your calculation will now run. You can just sit back and wait until it completes (should only take a few seconds) or you can continue to step 8 below. Also, don’t close the form or exit out of this screen yet (we’ll need to look at it again later).

8) Now we want to see how our data looks in the SAP table. So, right-click any field (in this case we right-clicked on SALES_TABLE_LINE_ID). The context menu will ask you what kind of view you want to see (Choose Rows or All Fields).

9) Now we’ll choose the “Rows” option (shown above). You’ll be asked to enter a number (our table has 1092 rows right now, so we’ll type 1 as shown above). Then your table will appear and you’ll be able to see what your calculation looks like.

10) If you made it this far then congratulations! You’ve learned how to use SAS CALCULATIONS in your SAP system and learned just enough for now. So let’s go ahead and close out the form.
