CEILING LIGHT GUIDELINES
A rule of thumb for you to determine the best size ceiling fixture. Measure the width and length of the room and add those two numbers together.
Then convert that number into total inches, which will be the desired width of the fixture.
EXAMPLE: If the room is 12 feet by 12 feet., then the ceiling fixture should be 24 inches wide.
HOWEVER: If you choose to place a Pendant Light or Chandelier over a table, then you should measure the width of that table, and then subtract 12 inches from the overall width of the table. That will be the number you use to determine the width for the proper size chandelier or pendant that will look best for that room.
AND BY ALL MEANS TAKE INTO CONSIDERATION:
This is not an exact science. A combination of factors should be considered, the material used or design can affect how large or small a lighting fixture can appear.
So in the end, personal taste and good judgment may be your best tool in deciding the right size lighting fixture for your decor.
