Table Lamp Height – 35″ and Above: Big is beautiful and our 35″ and above lamps (36″, 37″, 38″, 39″ 40″, 41″, 42″) are well above average! Tall table lamps make a strong statement and our beautiful tall lamps are from all the companies you love and respect. Lamps this size are typically used for general lighting. They will illuminate your room with attractive warmth.
As this diagram depicts, the combined height of a table lamp and a table should be between 58 and 64 inches. In addition, there are some other issues to consider.
If your room is large over 18 x 20 feet with ceilings 10 feet high – you need table lamps 30″ tall and higher. Lamps this size (35″, 36″, 37″, 38″, 39″, 40″ or more) are rather large and demand attention. If you want your lamps to be a focal point, lamps this size could be it.
They can be used in living rooms, foyers, and other places for ambient lighting – but for many, the 33″ or 34″ may be too large to use for reading. A good reading lampshade bottom should be even with your head so that you are not looking at the socket when seated. If you need a large lamp move it back at least two feet away for more comfortable reading.
Be careful placing a rather large lamp on a small table, it can sometimes look awkward. The table needs to be quite low and it should be heavy and have visual weight as well. If your sofa is low, you will need a smaller lamp. These look best beside a large, rather high, heavy sofa such as some Old World styles. If you are a household of tall people, go for a 32″ lamp.
