Traditional Lamps

Traditional Lamps for Living Room, Bedroom, and Office:  Warm, sumptuous, elegant, charming – are some of the adjectives that describe the Traditional style. This term loosely refers to all styles that were developed prior to the Industrial Revolution that expressed a European or Oriental aesthetic. Traditional table lamps and lampshades embrace ornamentation and fine craftsmanship. Also included here, the Transitional style combines features of both the Traditional and Contemporary styles.  FineHomeLamps.com offers Free Shipping, No Tax – on all our products.

Traditional Lamps Add a Touch of Yesterday

Traditional style interior design is still one of the most popular styles. It embraces order, symmetry, and proportion. Over the centuries, many different variations of Traditional style have emerged. Styles range from being very formal and ornate to more casual and simple. Today, there are  traditional lamps available to suit most any taste.

How to Determine the Best Height for a Traditional Table Lamp

The general rule of thumb for determining table lamp or bedside lamp height is that the lamp should measure between 58-64 inches in height – from the floor to the top of the finial. Subtract out the height of the table on which it sets to determine lamp height.  If your table is 30″ in height – you would be looking for a table lamp that is between 28-34 inches in height to the top of the finial.

If you have a very small bedroom, you may want to choose a lamp slightly shorter than the overall 58″ height to top of finial.  Today, bedside lamps are commonly taller than in the past.

Lampshade Size and Shape for a Bedside Lamp: The shade should never be larger than the table. If your bedside table is narrow in depth, the front to back distance, you may need a lamp with an oval or rectangular shade. Avoid placing large lamps on small tables, and conversely, small lamps on large tables. The lamp and table should balance each other nicely.

Use a Mix of Lighting Sources

As with any style, do not rely on just your Traditional table lamp to light your room – whether it’s a living, dining room, or bedroom. Use a variety of table lamps, floor lamps, wall sconces, and/or ceiling lights. Use dimmer switches to give you options depending on activity and time of day or night. They allow you to set the mood in your room.
