ASIAN TABLE LAMPS

Historically, Asian interior design has been characterized by clean, horizontal lines. Today, modern Asian interiors have incorporated some aspects of Western design. Yet, the lines, whether horizontal or vertical typically maintain a simple elegance.

Porcelain, wood, and rice paper have always been prominent features in Oriental interiors. In terms of porcelain, the Chinese began large scale production of the highly treasured blue and white porcelain in the 14th century. Today blue white porcelain table lamps continue to be a favorite among homeowners and collectors.

The photo to the left illustrates a contemporary Asian living and dining room with minimalist attributes that evoke a feeling of open continuity.  In this example, the architectural features on the ceiling, wall, and window provide much of the visual texture to space.  Furniture and accessories are kept to a minimum.

A popular color scheme is black, white, gold, gray, cream  – or some other monochromatic array. When color accents are used, they are usually bold, strong colors. Pastels are not used as often.

Much of the Japanese and Chinese artwork depicts nature – birds,  flora and fauna (the beautiful cherry blossom trees), and perhaps a Geisha girl.  Oriental art is largely influenced by nature and religion. Buddhism and Taoism are important motifs as they relate to the natural world.
