BLUE AND WHITE TABLE LAMPS ADD TIMELESS BEAUTY
The color blue is said to have a calming and relaxing effect on human behavior. Blue is associated with royalty and trustworthiness. Today, many institutions such as banks use blue as part of their corporate identity.
As shown in the photo to the left, the traditional blue and white table lamps compliment the timeless and traditional style of this living room. Blue and white lamps typically depict scenes of nature such as trees and flowers, birds, and other wildlife. The deep cobalt blue imparts a regal ambiance to the space.
The use of blue and white lamps with a yellow background is traditionally regarded as a good way to display these items. Yellow is the complementary color of blue on the Color Wheel – and as such – the color blue is emphasized when combined with yellow.
TRADITIONAL BLUE AND WHITE LAMP – HISTORICAL OVERVIEW
The widespread production of fine blue and white porcelain began in China during the 14th century at the Imperial kilns in Jingdezhen. For the next 300 years, China remained the porcelain capital of the world.
The Persians supplied the Chinese with the “cobalt oxide” needed to make the beautiful blue and white vessels. This raw material was a very prized commodity by the Chinese. Europeans loved the blue and white pieces – and by the 16th century the Portuguese were the leading importers to Europe, followed later by the Dutch and English.
